Are your old brush fences getting a bit thin?
We supply birch bundles for you to top up as required.
Please note when buying new brush fences these come complete stuffed with birch.
Quantity (approximately 16 stems per bundle) Based on filling a 12cm wide fence frame.
Small - to fill a 1.2m wide fence approx. 2 bundles
Medium - to fill a 2.4m wide fence approx. 3 bundles
Large - to fill a 3m wide fence approx. 4 bundles
Bundle sizes are approx. as they vary depending on a number of branches on the stem.
Because of the nature of the product the quantities are approximate, if you have very thick sections to fill you will require more. Birch is supplied in long lengths from 1.8m - 2.4m for you to cut as required.
The lower down the branch the thicker the stem becomes and so this may need to be discarded for smaller fences.
How to freshen up your brush fences for the coming season:
You will need:
Loppers for larger stems, strong shears / secateurs or Electric hedge trimmer for trimming the tops and making the sides neat and a rope.
1) Empty your brush fence frame of all old birch.
2) Brush off the frame and use this opportunity to re paint the framework in preservative and make any repairs.
3) Cut off and discard the very thickest parts of the birch branch. These are great for making log pile habitats for wildlife.
4) Stuff the birch into your fence frame, one branch at a time.
5) When the frame is full use a rope to loop round and pull the birch up tight to give you have a dense professional finish
6) Using a pair of secateurs or a hedge trimmer, trim of the excess birch. You can set the height and get a nice straight line by using a length of timber secured in place. Or freestyle a horseshoe shape.
7) The trimmings can then be used to continue stuffing the remainder of the frame.
